While working outside at her Silverthorne business Alpine Gardens in the springtime, Sherie Sobke spends a lot of time listening to birdsong. American robins will whistle. A warbler – or perhaps a sparrow or towhee – might join in. This time of year, hummingbirds will start buzzing near the greenhouses and ospreys can be spotted nesting along the Blue River, Sobke said.

State of the River meeting in Silverthorne to educate public on importance of well-loved Blue River
On Friday morning, May 17, three anglers converged along the rec path in Silverthorne, chatting briefly before each staking out their own claim along the Blue River. Father and son, Doug and Ben Yenter, are Evergreen residents and occasional visitors to the Blue River in Summit County. As Doug Yenter waded into the river, which runs parallel to Colorado Highway 9 through the valley below the Dillon Reservoir, he described he and his son as “tailwater junkies” who enjoy the difficulty of the trout that can be found below the dam.

Since 1989, Vail Valley Academy of Dance has provided dance instruction for both little-bitty young ones, as well as advanced dancers, who compete in the repertory company.
