Vail Whitewater Race Series set to kick off on May 7
The 2024 Vail Whitewater Race Series returns on May 7, which can only mean one thing: Tuesday nights belong to the river rats once again. “I do consider myself a river rat,” said Vail Recreation District’s (VRD) new sports coordinator Wyatt Smith, who runs both the summer whitewater and trail run race series.
For Breckenridge’s Matt Vawter, being a James Beard award finalist is about more than just food
Less than four years after opening his own restaurant, Summit County resident Matt Vawter is now in the running to receive one of the highest honors in the culinary world. Vawter, executive chef and owner of Rootstalk in Breckenridge, was named a finalist for the 2024 James Beard Foundation award for best chef in the mountain region, which includes Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. The award winners are set to be announced in Chicago on June 10.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation after a man’s body was found in a field west of the Summit Cove neighborhood on Saturday, April 27.
