SALT LAKE CITY — A pair of big-time scorers with big wins this week have been chosen as the KSL.com Clean Simple Eats high school hoops players of the week. The Skyline girls basketball team was one of the first to return to play after the Thanksgiving break, getting its first win of the season over Hunter Monday after three straight losses to open the season.
BYU Women's Volleyball Triumphs Over Weber State, Advances to Second Round of NCAA Tournament
The BYU women's volleyball team, seeded No. 4, began their NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 win over Weber State. Despite being considered the underdogs, Weber State competed well, especially in the third set. BYU's head coach, Heather Olmstead, commended Weber State's performance and looked forward to future matches. BYU's win secures their place in the second round, where they will play against 5-seed Arizona State on December 2.
Syracuse Community Center Announces New Year Registration for Sports Leagues and Art Classes
The Parks and Recreation department has released updates for the upcoming year. Registration for the Pickleball League opens on January 1st for residents and January 8th for non-residents, closing on January 21st. The six-week league begins the week of January 29th at the Syracuse Community Center, costing $25 for residents and $30 for non-residents.
Davis boys basketball off to good start to 2023–24 season
Early reviews are positive for the Davis boys basketball team. It’s early—very early—but the Darts won their first two games, both by 19 points over solid competition. Coming off somewhat of a rebuilding season, Davis is looking to regain more of its 2021–22 form when it finished 22-2 overall. Last season, Davis was 14-12.
Hawks bow out in state football semifinals
Alta lost in the state semifinals Nov. 9 to 10th-seeded Bountiful by the count of 20-19, ending the Hawks’ season at 10-4. The game was back and forth all night long, but Bountiful scored the winning touchdown with a minute left to play, erasing a 19-14 deficit to go up for good.

Standout Players to Start the College Basketball Season
Possibly a less familiar name than the others on this list, Dillon Jones has been a paint monster for Weber State this season. He started the campaign with three games of 20 or more points and ten or more rebounds, including a 29-point outburst in a comeback victory over Saint Mary's in Moraga, a victory that put the Bobcats on the map. He's among that crop of guard-forwards with the length to finish and rebound around the rim while also being able to drive the lane and occasionally find open teammates based on the attention he demands. Outside of LeDee, Jones may have the best chance among all mid-major players to make an All-American team if he keeps up this level of play.

Red hockey team defeats Weber County Wednesday 11-0
The Red hockey team defeated Weber County on Wednesday evening 11-0 at the Park City Ice Arena. Red players Ian Marsland and Leo Vanvelkenburgh led the charge, pouring in two goals, and a goal and two assists, respectively. Park City Head Coach Mike Adamek lauded his team’s performance, saying, “Our players showed up to play with a little chip on their shoulders, and it showed. We played a nearly flawless offensive game. … Good all-around night for us.” Next up for the Red team are the South County Black Ice Llamas, who they’ll take on next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., also at the Park City Ice Arena.
