LAURINBURG, N.C. (WBTW) — The eastbound lanes of Highway 74 in Laurinburg will remain closed into next week after a fiery crash Thursday morning, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

NCDOT’s DriveNC.Gov website said Highway 74 E. is closed because of the crash and that “cleanup, structural and pavement repair continues into the week of the 22nd.”

Authorities have not said whether anyone was hurt in Thursday morning crash, which involved two tractor-trailers and a boat and sent thick, black smoke billowing into the air. An NCDOT spokesperson told News13 late Thursday afternoon that crews were at the scene assessing the damage to determine when the road could be safely reopened.

There is a detour in place for Highway 74 east. It goes from Highway 501 south to Old Maxton Road to Patterson Road to N. Rocky Ford Road to Highway 74 Business to Highway 74.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the Laurinburg Fire Department responded to the scene. No additional information was immediately available.
