LATHAM, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A couple of local businesses celebrated a new beginning on Wednesday. Virtue Consignment Boutique and Beck’s Fur Salon hosted ribbon cuttings in Newton Plaza in Latham.

Beck’s Fur opened 90 years ago on Clinton Avenue in Albany. The store was most recently located in Stuyvesant Plaza before moving to Newton Plaza in 2023.

Virtue Consignment opened its first store in November and quickly outgrew it. Despite the different paths the two businesses have taken, both are happy to be where they are now.

“I love it here,” Beck’s Fur owner Joann Wilkinson-Stott said. “It’s so nice and open. I can see outside, and the people are so nice here.”

“Newton Plaza’s been amazing,” Virtue Consignment Boutique owner Shannon McAvoy said. “Obviously, there’s no better place to be than Newton Plaza. So we just started and here we are today, cutting the ribbon, and showing it to the town and community.”

Both business owners thanked their staff and customers for their support.
