Long-Awaited Evel Knievel Museum Project Moves Forward

What Now reported in December 2022 on plans for the Evel Knievel Museum to make its big move from Topeka, Kansas to Las Vegas . News on the move had broken more than a year earlier in coverage by the Las Vegas Review-Journal , but by 2022 more information on the project had come to light.

“The time for the move may be coming into view,” What Now wrote in the 2022 coverage. “ Dapper Companies has submitted paperwork to the Las Vegas Planning Commission that would see the new museum open at 1001 South First Street , in the Mission Linen building. That paperwork also names two restaurants attached to the project, including Ace Cafe , an international brand with six locations worldwide (one of which is in Orlando, Florida), and another restaurant project that might already be familiar to Vegas food scene fanatics: Heavy Metal Pizza Party .”

This story is now continuing to unfold. Eater Las Vegas published coverage on May 14 detailing some developments to the Evel Knievel project’s restaurant concepts. There’s confirmation of a pizza concept from Branden Powers , founder of Fremont Street ’s Evel Pie , which Powers describes in the Eater coverage as “Chuck E. Cheese meets ‘80’s metal.”

“Pizzas will come served on cracker crusts and beer and cocktails will be poured in Viking horn glasses, goblin goblets, and medieval steins,” the coverage says. “The restaurant will also have a 1970s carnival dark ride, pinball machines, Skee-ball, and retro arcade games. An animatronic heavy metal band of characters will perform from their Castle Lair.”

Importantly, there’s also a change of plans on the coffee front. According to Eater, the new cafe in question will be a new location from Las Vegas’s own Mothership Coffee Roasters —which will serve as the brand’s primary roasting facility.

What Now reached out on Thursday to Mothership Coffee Roasters owner Joshua Walter to ask about plans for the new location. Walter was not immediately available for comment.
