Truck Touch, EV Vehicle Races Saturday at RFK Stadium
The District of Columbia Citywide “Truck Touch” will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at RFK Stadium, Lot 8. The event will feature a variety of free activities for kids and adults. Lorusso reaches 100 RBIs, No. 19 Maryland beats Northeastern 7-2
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Nick Lorusso became the first Division I player since 2003 to reach 100 RBIs in a season and No. 19 Maryland beat Northeastern 7-2 on Friday in the opener of the Winston-Salem Regional. The Big Ten champion Terps (42-19) equaled their second-most victories in a season, tying the 2015 squad. Maryland will play in the winner’s bracket on Saturday. Northeastern (44-15) faces elimination. Lorusso went 3 for 4 with a homer, triple, and single with two runs scored and two RBIs. His first-inning homer was his 24th of the season to tie Maryland’s home-run record. Lorusso also set the Maryland single-season record for total bases with 191. Lorusso scored the go-ahead run after his triple, coming home on a sacrifice fly by Ian Petrutz in the fourth after Northeastern tied it at 2-all. Petrutz and Eddie Hacopian each finished with two RBIs.

Demons Softball Splits Doubleheader With Knoxville
The Washington Demon softball team earned a doubleheader split against the Knoxville Panthers last night. While Knoxville took the first game 3-0, the Demons rebounded to win the nightcap 4-2. Game one was a pitchers’ duel between Washington’s Bella Salazar and Knoxville’s Ashlyn Finarty. Salazar threw a complete game with five hits and five strikeouts, but Finarty’s two-hit shutout led the Panthers to victory. Knoxville scored twice in the second inning and once in the third, which proved enough offense.

The ERHS girls lacrosse team remained undefeated throughout the 2023 season. The star-studded team won the Prince George’s County championships and the 4A regional championships this year. The team ended with an overall record of 13-2 this season, winning a majority of their games with a 10-point lead. Their record has only improved since last season, as they fell only one game short of the county championship title.
Washington defeats Utah in opening-round game of Women's College World Series
Washington defeated Utah 4-1 on Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Women’s College World Series. Utah took an early lead in the 2nd inning of this game, but Washington quickly responded in the bottom half of the frame. The Huskies scored 2 in the 2nd, 1 in the 4th and 1 in the 6th en route to their convincing victory.
Women’s tennis upgrade: DC’s Citi Open merges with Silicon Valley Classic
Summer pro tennis in D.C.’s Rock Creek Park will have will have a little more meaning starting this year. The Citi Open will combine with the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic from San Jose, California, to create the Mubadala City DC Open beginning in 2023. According to a news release, combining both events elevates D.C.’s women’s tennis tournament into WTA 500 level, meaning higher-level players would be able attend to play with a higher cash prize at stake.
