First Alert Weather: Sunny skies and calm weather today
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Drier air will move in over the next few days. Sunshine will replace cloudy skies. Afternoon temperatures will increase and Heat Indexes will increase, even though dew points decrease, because of the warmer weather. Very little chance for showers, mostly in inland locations in the afternoon.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Today is a First Alert Weather Day, meaning that the disruptive showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast. As we move into the later morning and into the afternoon, the showers and thunderstorms will work their into the Suncoast from north to south. It may take most of the afternoon for the storms to sink far enough south that they clear the area. Some of the storms could be severe with gusty winds and hail a possibility. Isolated tornados and waterspouts cannot be ruled out. Additionally, there is a risk for heavy rain that could lead to minor flooding of poor drainage roadways.
Man accused of shooting pregnant woman during road rage incident enters plea
PALMETTO, Fla. (WWSB) - The Riverview man arrested in connection with road rage shooting incident has entered a written plea of not gulity. According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department, 50-year-old Vincent Steele is charged with five counts of attempted murder after he allegedly fired multiple shots into a vehicle during a road rage incident in Palmetto.
Majority of Suncoast enters drought
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The latest U.S. drought monitor shows most of Sarasota and Manatee County has moved into the level one drought category. The area of Manatee County that remains in the lower, very dry category is mostly north of the Manatee River. Some areas of Sarasota and Manatee County just east of the coastline and west of I-75 are not in a drought. All of Hardee and around 90% of DeSoto County are in the level one moderate drought category.

Savor Sarasota Returns June 1
It's almost that time of year again. Visit Sarasota County's Savor Sarasota Restaurant Week (in actuality two weeks) starts up again on June 1 and runs through June 14. Participating restaurants will offer a two-course menu for $25 per person for lunch and three courses for $40 per person for dinner.
