This quirky city six hours from NYC has been ranked the most affordable in the country — but would you live there?
Life in the Inflated Apple got you down? According to a new study, the most affordable city in the country is barely a half day’s drive away — hours closer to home comforts than the current hotspots popular with fleeing New Yorkers. Say hello — and maybe move to — Pittsburgh. Currently boasting a median house price of $274,900, the mostly-former steel town remains comfortable with its blue collar roots, while also leaning into a uniquely quirky, artsy heritage — this is the birthplace of Andy Warhol and a training ground for a young Keith Haring, home of Fred “Mister” Rogers and the...
Severe storm alert: NYC braces for heavy rain, winds, possible outages on Friday l Forecast
NEW YORK CITY - Don't be fooled by the beautiful weather – strong storms could be on the way to NYC. The National Weather Service has put parts of New York City in the marginal and slight risk zone for severe weather on Friday afternoon, meaning heavy rain, damaging winds and scattered power outages are all possible across the Tri-State area.
NYC doormen reveal things you should never wear to the club
There are plenty of dos and don’ts when it comes to going out in New York City. Part of that comes down to what you’re wearing. Doormen and bouncers are constantly trying to cultivate the right vibe inside the club, and to do so, they’re going to judge you based on appearance. “There are so many NPCs,” Jonah Almost, the doorman at Silencio (and sometimes Inferno), told NYLON. “I have to ask, ‘What are you contributing to this space?’ It’s about building up the culture here one way or another.” “NPC” is an abbreviation for “non-player character”: any virtual character in a video...
100 blocks by toxic NYC canal being tested for cancerous vapors — residents demand answers
The state is quietly investigating roughly 100 blocks in and around Brooklyn’s toxic Gowanus Canal to determine how many are contaminated with cancer-causing vapors and other hazardous substances, The Post has learned. The state Department of Environmental Conservation began its probe in September following public outcry over reports it waited nearly two years to alert the public that cancer-causing vapors nearly 22 times the amount considered safe escaped from polluted soil and into a popular shuffleboard club. Records show recent air-quality tests inside the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club on Union Street have since come back as “safe” once steps were taken to reduce harmful fumes...

Hochul mulls NYC subway mask ban amid rise in antisemitic hate
Gov. Kathy Hochul is mulling a partial mask ban for New York City’s subways as antisemitic hate by masked protesters goes off the rails. The governor said Thursday she’s working with lawmakers after Jewish leaders’ calls, first reported by The Post, to reinstate an anti-masking law that was repealed as the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The talks are largely, but not entirely, focused on subways, Hochul said. “It’s time for a reset,” she said during a news conference. “There’s obviously a problem here. This will be dealt with.” The potential about-face on masks comes after what Hochul called “vile and disgusting” recent anti-Jewish incidents in New York City, especially one...
Hellish NYC church demolition breaks noise rules, works overnight without permit
An Upper East Side parish performed nighttime demolition work on its church without a permit as it tries to sell the property, The Post has learned. Kalman Chany, a lay trustee at the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, and others in the neighborhood, noticed workers removing items, including religious artifacts, from the shuttered church at 213 East 83rd St. In addition, they said, demolition work was performed inside after dark, with historic stained-glass windows being removed. Officials from the city Department of Buildings visited the church on the night of May 29 after receiving “several 311 complaints,” said agency spokesman...

In particular, Ruiz said Quality Auto Services, a repair and body shop that moved into the neighborhood after a florist left the location, is to blame for taking neighbors’ parking spots, parking on the sidewalk and keeping cars parked in one spot for weeks on end.
