State Police: East Carroll Parish crash on US 65 claims the life of Lake Providence man

EAST CARROLL PARISH (KTVE/KARD) — On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, shortly after 12:00 AM, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a fatal crash on US 65 near LA 580. According to authorities, the crash claimed the life of 33-year-old Jamaar Scott of Lake Providence, La.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 GMC Yukon, driven by Scott, was traveling north on US 65. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC struck a deer in the roadway before exiting to the left and overturning.

Scott, who was unrestrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment and speed are suspected factors in this crash.

Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
