The Arts Council of Lake Oswego has announced nominees for its annual Gallery Without Walls People’s Choice Award sculpture contest.

The five nominees — which are part of the Gallery Without Walls rotating exhibit and can be found across downtown Lake Oswego — include “LandDance 1” by artists Jennifer Kapnek and Mike Suri, “The Watcher” by Scott Foster, “Walkabout” by Joel Heidel, “Puro Corde” by Ben Dye and “In the Mystery” by Sharon Warman Agnor.

The nominees were selected by a committee that includes city leaders, arts council board members and residents. The winner will be honored during a Gallery Without Walls Celebration on Sept. 21. The winning sculpture will be added to the city’s permanent collection.

Votes can be submitted online, in person or via mail and ballots can be found at Lake Oswego City Hall, the Arts Council of Lake Oswego office, the Adult Community Center, and the Lake Oswego Public Library or online at http://www.artscouncillo.org/. Anyone who lives or works in Lake Oswego can vote. Votes are due by Friday, June 14.

"We’re excited to be able to offer this award and purchase opportunity to artists; it’s important that communities continue to support the career growth of the artists they exhibit,” public arts and collections manager Norah Crean said in a press release.

The press release described “LandDance 1” as “having serene color and bold contrast,” “The Watcher” as contemplative, “Walkabout” as inspired by Heidel’s work in the tugboat industry, “Puro Corde” as originating from Dye’s interest in blacksmithing and metalworking and “In the Mystery” as drawing inspiration from NASA's Hubble telescope and featuring “kaleidoscopic colored glass and rocket-shaped frame.”
