Why I support Janelle Bynum for Congress

I am a resident of Lake Oswego writing to support Janelle Bynum as the candidate best qualified to represent Oregonians in the 5th Congressional District.

I recently attended a candidates’ forum that reinforced for me which candidate to vote for in the Democratic Primary. Janelle clearly demonstrated why she has the temperament, the experience and the commitment to earn our vote for Congress. Janelle was focused, concise and could cite her record of achievement in the Oregon Legislature as she answered questions from the moderator on a broad range of issues.

During her four terms as the state representative for Happy Valley and the surrounding area, Janelle has worked tirelessly to sponsor and to help pass legislation to support women’s rights, students, farm workers, job creation, health care, clean energy and affordable housing.

Because Janelle has a tangible record of legislative accomplishments, she has earned the endorsement of leaders at the national, state and local level, as well as that of everyday Oregonians who want someone who will champion Oregon values in Congress. In an era of such divisiveness in the political arena, Janelle has demonstrated herself to be someone who can truly work across the aisle to deliver results for all Oregonians.

I urge you to give Janelle Bynum your vote in the primary election, May 21, to be the Democratic candidate for the 5th Congressional District.

New library at different location wouldn’t solve problems

It is not just Lake Grove parents with concerns about the latest iteration of Lake Oswego City Hall’s plan for repurposing Lake Grove Elementary School (https://www.lakeoswegoreview.com/news/city-of-lake-oswego-says-lake-grove-community-center-a-generational-opportunity-school-parents-disagree/article_30430cbc-035c-11ef-8146-af58eccc6b40.html). The idea of demolishing the current library and moving all library services to the Lake Grove “community hub” would undercut one of the original library study goals of making library services accessible to more city residents. While constructing a second library site serving the west side of town makes sense in that regard, removing existing library service on the east side of town would simply render another set of residents library deprived. Our existing library is part of a cluster of civic assets on the east side of town important to those of us, especially seniors, who have chosen to live near the public library, the adult community center, the post office, the transit hub and shopping. The Lake Oswego Public Library is a community gem. Please, update its current east side location and fund a library branch to serve those living on the west side of our city.
