WALWORTH — Lake Mills’ girls soccer team won its sixth straight game, shutting out host Big Foot/Williams Bay 2-0 in nonconference play on Friday, May 3.

The L-Cats (11-2) got on the board in the 18th minute on Mckenna Klubertanz’ penalty kick. Lake Mills doubled its lead in the 70th minute on Addie Ninneman’s unassisted goal.

Milan Fullerton made six saves for her fifth clean sheet in the last six games.

“Tonight, we admittedly agreed we did not have our best game from a tactical and connecting standpoint, which is a credit to Big Foot for that,” Lake Mills girls soccer coach Jeff Hegstrom said. “They were a solid squad that gave us issues all night.

“But, with that being said, I thought we had one of our best nights of showing our toughness, heart, and willingness to battle through some adversity. We rotated like crazy at midfield and so many girls jumped in to support the Klubertanz girls in the central mid. I thought they all did an admirable job.

“Our defense showed grit with a lot of strength to help Milan to another clean sheet. Mckenna’s well placed pk, earned by Ava Schmidt in the box, and Addie’s heavy pressing goal were the difference in this one.”

LAKE MILLS 2, BIG FOOT 0

    Lake Mills 1 1 — 2

    Big Foot 0 0 — 0

First half — LM: M. Klubertanz (PK), 17:38.

    Second half — LM: A. Ninneman, 69:58.

Saves — LM (Fullerton) 6; BF (Mondragon) 6.

TUESDAY’S RESULTLODI — Sophomore Mollie Cooper scored two of Lake Mills’ three second-half goals in a 3-0 road Capitol Conference victory against Lodi on Tuesday, April 30.

Cooper broke a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal in the 45th minute, the first of three scores in a 13-minute span. Junior Addie Ninneman’s penalty kick in the 48th minute doubled the L-Cats’ lead before Cooper again scored unassisted, this time in the 58th minute.

Freshman Milan Fullerton stopped four shots in her clean sheet for Lake Mills (10-2, 3-1 in conference), which has won five straight including four via shutout.

“I don’t know that I could be more proud of this team tonight,” Lake Mills girls soccer coach Jeff Hegstrom said. “To push our record to 10-2 at this point in the season is a great reflection of the hard work paying off. All of these players battle so hard and leave it all on the field, and I think we are still building to our best play yet.

“Mollie is always a rock for us in the midfield, but man, she simply just balled out tonight. Both of her goals were top shelf from outside the 18 and gave our fans that traveled to Lodi a real treat to see. Our defense was really effective, shutting down their attack and took Coach Ava Stelter’s halftime adjustments to heart and really limited Lodi for the final 40 minutes. I can’t say it enough, I love this team.”
