Midterm cycle comes to a close in Isabella County

Polls across Isabella County and the state of Michigan have officially closed in the final stretch of one of the most notable midterm elections in Michigan history. Mount Pleasant residents had the opportunity to elect new city commissioners and school board members. People across Isabella County were also asked to vote in support of education millages and energy easements.

Isabella County closes bond to renovate administration building

The Isabella County Commission will be closing on a $13.7 million bond for renovations on the county administration building next Tuesday, Nov. 10. This was announced at the Commission meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The commissioners are in the process of accepting a bid on a contractor for renovations. Currently, Commissioner Frank Engler said the county is deciding between seven or eight contractors.

Bay County coffee shop and bar to close in December

KAWKAWLIN TWP, MI – Cafe One 3, a multipurpose establishment in Kawkawlin Township, will close its doors Dec. 24, owners Ben and Megan McParlan announced on social media. The business at 1459 S. Huron Road combines a coffee shop, bar, lounge and the Double S Party Store under one roof. The McParlans opened the cafe in 2018 and added a bar and lounge in 2023.

DHD#10 lifts harmful algae bloom advisories in Mecosta and Newaygo counties

District Health Department #10 and Michigan EGLE announced Wednesday, Nov. 4, that they are lifting two harmful algae bloom advisories near Big Rapids. The first lifted advisory is at Brower Park in Mecosta County, which had been in effect since Friday, Sep. 4. The other is at Hardy Dam Pond in Newaygo County, which was initiated a month earlier on Friday, Aug. 7.

The energy company is exploring a 254-megawatt Wind Energy Conversion System at the two township locations, according to a company spokesperson. Construction on Secord Dam nearing substantial completion

GLADWIN COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - Construction on Secord Dam is nearing substantial completion, nearly 6 1/2 years after massive floods damaged it and three other nearby dams. In its November construction newsletter, the Four Lakes Task Force says the installation of the bay 1 and bay 2 gates is close to completion, and crews will begin wet testing the gates over the next few weeks after installation is complete.
