Hudson, Chippewa Falls crowned Big Rivers track and field champions
The Big Rivers track and field Championships were held at New Richmond on Monday and both the boys and girls competitions crowned championships. Hudson won the boys title while Chippewa Falls won the girls championship. Both the Raiders and Cardinals were the top two teams in team scoring. Chippewa Falls outlasted Hudson by 1.5 points on the girls side with a score of 117.5. The crosstown rivalry made its way to the softball diamond Tuesday where the Eau Claire Memorial Old Abes hosted the Eau Claire North Huskies. The Western Cloverbelt Conference ran its track and field championships Tuesday at Cadott and crowned boys and girls individual and team champions. Rivermen prepare for busy 10 days on the diamond
The Eau Claire Rivermen will take to the diamond twice this week as the team looks to string together some strong victories and avoid the constant onslaught of Mother Nature. Schroeder scores 100th career goal as Regis/McDonell closes in on conference title
Regis/McDonell girls soccer crushed Assumption 7-0 Monday in a game between the top two teams in the Mid-Western Wisconsin Conference standings. Senior Annabelle Schroeder finished with four goals and reached the 100-goal milestone for her career with the Saints. Schroeder scored a pair of goals in the first half at the 25th and 26th minutes and also scored the first two goals of the second half in the 46th and 58th minutes. Colleen Callaghan assisted on three of Schroeder’s goals. The Saints now stand at 12-1-1 — the lone loss coming to Division 1 Eau Claire North — on the season and 9-0-0 in conference play. With three conference games remaining, Regis/McDonell now stands five points clear of Assumption, meaning the Saints need just one draw down the stretch to clinch at least a share of the conference title. Any combination of two points would give the Saints the outright title.

Ekoue earns WIAC Field Performer of the Meet honors
MADISON — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Yakob Ekoue (Sr. — Hopkins, Minnesota was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Field Performer of the Meet for the 2024 WIAC Outdoor Championships. The WIAC announced the award winners Friday afternoon, with Ekoue earning the distinction for the second consecutive season. Ekoue won the discus at the WIAC championship with a heave of 173-6 (52.89m) and added a second-place finish in the hammer throw and third-place standing in the shot put. Ekoue was also the Field Performer of the Meet at this season’s WIAC Indoor Championships and won a national championship in the shot put during the indoor season. The Blugolds are set to compete in a few last-chance qualifiers over the next couple of weeks before heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the NCAA Outdoor Championships from May 23-25.
