Deer hunting legend shares public-land secrets

Trophy whitetail hunting legend Greg Miller of Wisconsin was a master at killing big bucks on private and public land, but he estimates that 75% of his deer were harvested on public land. Miller shot his best-ever archery buck, a 17-point non-typical that gross-scored 202 5/8 points in December 1990 on snowy private land in Eau Claire County. McDonell volleyball wraps up undefeated postseason with Division 4 title

GREEN BAY — This season, the backs of the Chippewa Falls McDonell volleyball team warmup shirts feature a message. "All in. All together. All the way." Since the beginning of the season, the Macks dreamed they could become a championship-winning team this fall. Doing so meant they had to be committed and united. Three months later, those dreams finally turned into reality, as No. 1 McDonell claimed the 2026 Division 4 State Championship Saturday at the Resch Center, winning in straight sets 25-23, 25-20, 25-12 over No. 3 Heritage Christian. “A state championship requires you to be all in, and every ounce of you has to be into that journey,” Macks coach Kat Hanson said. “You need to be together, and you hear that from each of the players. Her presentation, Code Status: End-of-Life Wishes, will run from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Blue Hills Lecture Hall in Ritzinger Hall and also will be livestreamed at ricelaketv.com . Mondovi rallies from early deficits to down Regis in playoffs

MONDOVI — Noah Laber broke free on a 75-yard touchdown run on the game's first play from scrimmage. Laber scored again on a 7-yard run on the first play of the second quarter. Outscored and humbled 38-0 in a regular season thumping by Mondovi, the Eau Claire Regis Ramblers were determined to come back strong. And they did exactly that Friday night in a Level 3 state quarterfinal football matchup with the favored Buffaloes. But top-seeded Mondovi (11-1) kept its composure before earning a hard-fought 27-12 win to capture a Division 6 sectional championship. The Buffaloes advance to face Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic in next Friday's semifinal round in Waupaca. "We knew Regis was going to come in here and battle and compete," Mondovi coach Craig Loscheider said. "They definitely made us earn this. Our kids fought back and stuck to the game plan.
