Tennessee high school football program facing consequences for recruiting violation
A major recruiting violation has led to a Tennessee high school football program being placed on restrictive probation and being barred from postseason play this season. Wynton Jackson of the Knox News Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported on Wednesday, Oct. 21, that Karns High School football coach Lee Warren had been accused of trying to recruit a player that was not already at Karns. This led to an investigation by the Tennessee Sports Secondary Athletic Association. The resulting investigation concluded that the accusation was confirmed and reached Level 3 of the TSSAA's recruiting rule violations. Level 3 is considered "targeted recruiting.” That includes "direct, private, or third-party contact initiated by a person directly or indirectly associated with a school to a specific student-athlete enrolled at another school to solicit or encourage that student-athlete's enrollment," per the TSSAA Bylaws. "We learned of the situation when a voicemail was shared with our staff, which appeared to indicate that a Karns High School staff member was asked by the head football coach to contact the mother of a student who was not enrolled at Karns and encourage him to attend Karns High School and participate in football," a letter from

Cosby defeats Hampton to set up winner-take-all region game vs. Jellico
HAMPTON — As this high school football season progressed, it became apparent that the top three spots in the Region 1-1A standings would be determined in the final two weeks of the regular season when Cosby visited Hampton in Week 10 before hosting Jellico in Week 11. The first half of the equation was solved in the Eagles’ favor as they traveled to face the Bulldogs and came away with a huge 46-30 victory on the road at J.C. Campbell Stadium on Friday evening, setting up a winner-take-all contest for the region crown as Cosby hosts the Blue Devils this coming Thursday at Virgil Ball Stadium. After Hampton dropped down to 1A a season ago and dethroned the Eagles from atop the region, Cosby (8-1, 6-0) repaid the favor by eliminating the Bulldogs (6-3, 4-2) from title contention, setting up the de facto championship game versus Jellico (9-0, 6-0) in the regular-season finale and clinching a home first-round state playoff game in the process. “I’m just really proud of the kids,” said fourth-year Eagles head coach Levi Cooper. “We talk about it all the time, Friday night comes down to so much of how you prepare through the week. Community School of the Arts Begins a New Chapter After 34 Years
It’s Tuesday afternoon, and little snatches of music drift through the otherwise quiet halls of Church Street United Methodist: a piano melody that starts out haltingly but gradually finds its footing, the bright tinkling of triangles in a percussion circle, stray notes escaping from the classrooms. Meanwhile, in an art room, a group of students is so engrossed in their work that no one even lifts their head when I start taking photos.
