LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Lafayette Chamber Singers will take their final bow on Sunday during their final concert, as the group prepares to dissolve after 50 years of performing in the Greater Lafayette area .

Clayton Lein, artistic director for the Lafayette Chamber Singers, said there was no small reason behind the group's decision to dissolve, but 2024 seemed to be the right time.

"It’s been a wonderful opportunity," Lein said. "There are many communities that already had groups established. Lafayette at the time didn’t have anything like that, so it was a wonderful opportunity to introduce something new and to share this kind of music."

Over the group’s 50 years of organization, it has received several statewide awards and recognitions, the most recent being the named the best choir of 2022 by the Greater Lafayette Commerce . Having the honor of performing across the region, the Lafayette Chamber Singers’ website highlights the Unity Temple Concert Series in Chicago, participation in the prestigious Presenter Touring Program of the Indiana Arts Commission and a concert for the Indiana of the American Choral Directors’ Association.

The Lafayette Chamber Singers will host their final concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 12 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 333 Meridian St. in West Lafayette. The singers will present choral works from the last four centuries, including works by Samuel Barber, Edvard Grieg, Robert Pearsall, Francis Poulenc, George Shearing and Michael Tippett.

The concert is free to the public with no tickets required. A reception will follow the performance.
