Women in Leadership Series Aims to Bring Women in Business Together
Headlined by a panel of women entrepreneurs and business leaders, the popular series returns with continued support from the Carmel Symphony Orchestra. Nancy Heck, the Communications Director for the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, says the event will host a panel discussion from three women who have made their mark in the community and business. She says the event is important because it helps women better understand how to succeed in business. She says the talks will dive deeper into the journey of being a woman entrepreneur, including the failures and bumps along the way. “We always look at the end result.”

Fresh serving of ‘Spitfire Grill’ in Hamilton County
A balm for hard times, Carmel Community Players returns us to Gilead, Wis., with a new production of “The Spitfire Grill” at The Switch Theatre in Fishers. Based on the 1996 film, this musical by old friends Fred Alley and James Valcq premiered Off-Broadway in 2001 and has seen many community stagings, including at Westfield in 2023. However, according to licensing agent Concord Theatricals, the show is “newly revised in 2024.” A quick Google didn’t yield details; it appears to us that any changes are subtle, as this is still an uplifting story of redemption – personal and community-wide – with a charm more genuine than the typical “Hallmark” movie romance.

Savvy Sliders to open Tuesday in Lafayette, bringing new fast food
LAFAYETTE, IN — Those who frequent Old U.S. 231 will soon have a new fast-food option as Savvy Sliders prepares to open its doors. Mike Bauer, a Lafayette-based business owner who owns 22 Subway stores across Lafayette and Terre Haute, said his new franchise, Savvy Sliders at 2862 Old U.S. 231 S. will celebrate its grand opening on Tuesday, rolling into regular daily operating hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The Michigan-based fast-food chain focused on sliders opened its first store in 2018. Since then, it has expanded into Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana and now Indiana. Bauer said for the past four years his main office for his Subway franchises has been in the nearby area at 413 Teal Road, using the former First Merchants Bank. When Bauer heard the bank was closing, he said he immediately began pursing it as a potential location for a Savvy Sliders. "My family started in the restaurant business in 1984. I've seen a couple hundred remodels in my time, and this is by far the most impressive change I have ever seen," Bauer said about the building's remodel.
