SPOONER — The Spooner Rails picked up a big Heart O’ North Conference victory in a close game on Monday, May 6, as they hosted the Ashland Oredockers. The Rails played hard, edging Ashland 3-2 to earn the victory. The win kept Spooner in third place in the tough HON Conference with a record of 8-5. New mural located inside Ashland Walmart highlights local landmarks
Shoppers at Walmart may have noticed a new splash of color. A new mural has been installed inside the grocery entrance as part of the store’s ongoing renovation. The artist behind the mural is Amelia Kaiser, who recently moved to the Minnesota north woods from the Pacific Northwest. Rice Lake, Minn.- The St. Louis County Historical Society is hosting a memorial run on Saturday. The 5k run-walk will be held in memory of Command Sergeant Major John S. Werner. CSM Werner was the first mayor of Rice Lake, Boy Scout troopmaster, mechanic, and of course veteran, with over 40 years of service. Unfortunately, Werner passed away this March. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Veterans Memorial Hall which leaders say Werner cared about deeply. Registration is $30 and the run will be held at the Other Place Bar and Grill.
