Mechanical forest thinning project to begin near South Lake Tahoe
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is scheduled to begin mechanical forest thinning this week on approximately 75 acres located in two locations, one near High Meadows Trail and one near Cascade Properties in South Lake Tahoe. The Lake Valley Mechanical Contract is part of the South Shore Hazardous Fuels Reduction and Healthy Forest Restoration Project intended to reduce the risk of severe wildfire near neighborhoods and create healthier forests in the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Man who shot up Tahoe apartment receives probation
A man who emptied a .40-caliber pistol into the walls of his Stateline apartment instead of shooting himself received probation on Tuesday. Andrew Edward Arnold Wood, 34, was on two diversions at the time of the May 20, 2023, shooting. He was on a drug diversion for possession of mushrooms in 2022 and a DUI diversion for a third instances from Aug 8, 2021.
City of South Lake Tahoe seeks input on the Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The City is seeking input from the community on updating the Lake Tahoe Airport 20-Year Master Plan. There are three ways to provide feedback about future improvements of airport facilities and infrastructure, via a survey, through the comment portal at http://www.cityofslt.us/AirportMasterPlan, and at the in-person open house. The Lake Tahoe Airport Master Plan Survey is open now through Friday, June 21. The public is also invited to attend a Community Open House on Monday, June 3 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 1901 Lisa Maloff Way.
Gas Line Replacement Project to cause traffic delays on State Route 28 between Kings Beach and Tahoe City
KINGS BEACH, Calif. – Drivers can expect delays on State Route 28 along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week, as Caltrans resumes traffic-interfering work. Southwest Gas and its contractor, Q&D Construction, will continue work on a gas line replacement project on SR-28 between Tahoe City and Kings Beach.
