Letter: Please don't change my neighborhood!

My View: Notes from the Front Row ™
What if the lack of housing had the same urgency as lake clarity? In my view, the housing crisis in South Shore deserves the same urgent attention as the clarity of Lake Tahoe. Over the last thirty years, the urgency around lake clarity has generated billions of dollars, but housing lacks this same focus. While the Sugar Pine project, thanks to donated land from the state, is a step forward, the overall record on housing remains bleak. Housing is essential for individuals, families, and communities, yet without projects like Sugar Pine, there is little to show for new housing initiatives. The issue lacks the urgency, focus, and coordination we have seen in environmental protection efforts. Here are some obstacles:

Seasoned artist teams up with South Lake Tahoe students in new exhibit
In her years as an artist in South Lake Tahoe, Shelley Zentner has learned to find beauty amid pain and struggle. After the Caldor Fire of 2021 blazed across Echo Summit and came within a breath of her own home, Zentner created an acclaimed series of charcoal drawings and paintings that captured both sadness and eerie beauty. In “Two Suns,” the sun and its reflection on the Truckee River glow through charred trees and smoky air.
The Bad Doctor (Opinion)
Akin to a student who has just taken their first economics class, Councilmember Robbins completely misses the mark in his latest op-ed entitled “Change is needed in Tahoe.” He laments the changes in local demographics, business diversity and housing affordability in the last 25 years, diagnoses these changes as a Problem That Must Be Solved, and then goes on to call out the shadowy forces that seek to thwart his heroism.
