KOKOMO, Ind. — A Kokomo man was taken to an Indianapolis-area hospital after he was reportedly hit by a car in south Kokomo Wednesday evening.

According to a news release from the Kokomo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of US 931 and Country Lane at around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday on a call of a serious bodily injury accident involving a pedestrian.

After an initial investigation, a 20-year-old Kokomo resident was reportedly walking northbound on the east side of the road. A driver, identified as a 34-year-old Indianapolis resident, was driving north on US 931.

The release said that the Kokomo man reportedly attempted to cross the road, running west, and was struck by the driver in the west lane of northbound traffic. An off-duty deputy with Cass County, as well as a physician who was a passerby, rendered aid to the Kokomo man until the Kokomo Fire Department came on scene.
