Jackson tops list of cities where residents overspend on vehicles
Jackson has been named the top city in Georgia for overspending on vehicles. According to a study by WalletHub, Jackson residents spend on average $21,814 on a vehicle loan. The average yearly income in Jackson is $33,565. This equates to a debt-to-income ratio of 65%. WalletHub analysts determined the average Jackson resident’s auto loan debt is the equivalent of half or more of their yearly income. Jackson isn’t the only Georgia city to make the list. Douglas and Waycross were also noted as top cities where residents devote a substantial amount of their income to vehicle purchases. Jackson was ranked No. 17 across the nation in the study that revealed the top 30 cities where residents overspend the most on cars and trucks. At the top of the list for the nation is Rio Grande City, Texas where residents have a 92% debit-to-income ratio in regards to vehicle purchases. Donna, Texas came in the No. 2 spot followed by Pine Bluff, Arkansas as No. 3. To determine where Americans overspend on their automobile purchases, WalletHub compared the median auto-loan balance and income in more than 2,500 U.S. cities. Alongside increased auto purchases naturally comes increased auto loan debt.
