Mountain View Central Railroad is every kid’s dream

KING, N.C. (WGHP) — Jason Hunter is living out his childhood love of trains.

He’s converted his family farm into a miniature railroad with a real train that people of all ages can ride.

“It’s been a big hit with people,” Hunter said. “Especially with kids.”

The train winds you and your family through their farm which includes several playgrounds for the kids, a fresh produce stand, gem mining and now a real caboose.

“The caboose itself weighs 55,000 pounds. 44 feet long and 10-foot and 1/2 wide,” he said. “When we opened it up, I was surprised at how good it looked on the inside.”

Hunter bought the caboose in 2024 and added it just in time for the miniature train rides to start back up for the season on May 4.

He’s also added his antique tractor collection which is now on display along with some hit-and-miss engines.

His antique tractor collection started with his grandfather when he was young.

“We would go around buying old tractors together, having a good time doing it,” said Hunter, who thinks about his grandfather every day. “I asked my dad … ‘If grandpa was here, what in the world would he say now?’ And [my dad] said, ‘Just keep right on going. You’re doing the right thing.'”

The family’s produce stand, called Moser Farm Market, is currently open with Mountain View Central Train rides, playgrounds, gem mining and antique tractors opening up for the season on May 4.
