Dec. 7 Boys Basketball Roundup - Mount Vernon/Plankinton edges Kimball/White Lake in Thursday action
WHITE LAKE — Mt. Vernon/Plankinton clipped Kimball/White Lake in boys basketball action on Thursday. KWL’s Blake Leiferman finished with 21 points and 16 boards. Nathan Mohnen added 10 points, while Hudson Heath had eight points and six rebounds. Martin Josserand had three steals. Stanley County 73, Miller 69.

Chamberlain Defeats Stanley County to Open Season
The Chamberlain Cubs would lead the entire way throughout the first game of the season and would defeat the Stanley County Lady Buffaloes in Ft. Pierre 44-25 on Tuesday night. Chamberlain was able to hold down the Lady Buffs through the first half with a 28-8 to lead although Stanley County would outscore the Cubs in the second half 17-16. The early lead big advantage for the Cubs was too much for the Lady Buffs to overcome in the second half. Cadence Hand would lead the way for the Lady Buffs with nine points, Kaysen Maggee and Mattie Duffy each would have seven. Chamberlain’s Jayna Handel had the game high 21 points for the Cubs and Kinsey Evans would finish with 18.

Area Volunteer Fire Departments Among Recipients of State Grant Funding for PPE
Alpena, Buffalo Rural and Wessington Springs were among the South Dakota volunteer fire departments from across the state that have been awarded grants totaling $5 million in funding for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Earlier this year, the South Dakota Legislature passed and Governor Noem signed HB1127 appropriating state general funds to the Department of Public Safety creating the grant program to support local volunteer fire departments.
