A local official was among those honored during the recent Piedmont Legacy Trails mini-summit, held last week in Kernersville.

Daniel White, director of Surry County Parks and Recreation, was given a Legacy Award, “recognizing the dedication of individuals and organizations to trail development and enhancement in the Piedmont Triad.”

Specifically, his was the Piedmont Legacy Trails Government Partner Award, for his “significant vision, contributions, and leadership for trails in Surry County.

Others receiving awards included Rep. Kyle Hall, who also received the Piedmont Legacy Trails Government Partner Award; Reidsville Area Foundation with the Piedmont Legacy Trails Funder Award; and Uwharrie Trail Blazers with the Piedmont Legacy Trails Group Award.

The awards were given out during the April 10 gathering, which was designed for trail professionals and advocates from the Piedmont Triad area to gather to hear presentations on leveraging funding opportunities, advocacy strategies, and tactics to elevate trail systems.

“The summit served as a platform for networking and knowledge exchange among attendees, fostering connections vital for advancing trail recreation in the Piedmont region,” summit organizers said.
