CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Police are investigating after two vehicles were struck by gunfire. According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, officers responded to the 600 block of S. Ellis around 5 p.m. on Monday, September 18 for a report of shots fired. Two vehicles were struck by bullets.
Moms Demand Action Calls for Increased Community Safety After Cape Girardeau Shooting
The activist group, Moms Demand Action, has reacted to a recent shooting on Broadway Street, Cape Girardeau with a call for increased community safety. Leslie Washington, a local resident and member of the group, expressed her concern at a recent city council meeting. The shooting, she said, was disturbingly close to home and made her question the level of safety in the community. Washington called for stricter public safety measures to counter gun violence. She also insisted on holding those causing harm accountable, and asserted the importance of enforcing these safety measures across the entire community. According to Washington, any officials failing to perform their duties effectively should be removed from office.
