HONOLULU (KHON2) — After 78-years of education, St. Catherine School in Kapaa announced the closure of their doors in June of this year.

“We wish to thank every teacher, administrator, priest, nun, family member, and student who chose to be a part of St. Catherine School legacy,” says Father Nicholas “Nick” Apetorgbor, Pastor of St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish.

They said despite timeless efforts to sustain its mission, the school will cease operations, marking the end of an illustrious legacy of educating generations of students.

“You will not be forgotten, please know just how special you are to our community, and we thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and love you have given over the years.”

    Mandy Thronas-Brown, Interim School Principal

Despite the sad news, the School and Parish want to end the school year in celebration.

As part of St. Catherine School’s contribution to the community since 1946, students, teachers and staff invite all of Kaua’i, malihini and kama’aina to join them at their annual St. Catherine Carnival.

The carnival will be held on May 3 and 4 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

A special invitation to the Farewell Mass with Bishop Larry Silva followed by dinner to be hosted by St. Catherine Parish and School has also been extended to the public.

Mass will be held at 5 p.m. on June 5.

They are asking attendees to RSVP for the event by contacting the school office at 808-822-4212.

The deadline to RSVP is May 17.
