Memorial Day weekend in Kansas City off to deadly start; 1 dead in shooting

The Memorial Day weekend in Kansas City, Missouri, is off to a deadly start with one person shot to death Friday evening.

The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. near east 31st Street and Van Brunt Boulevard.

Officers had been patrolling the area when they heard gunshots and began investigating.

During their investigation, the officers were directed to a nearby car wash.

Police found the victim shot to death inside of a truck.

A preliminary investigation found the victim may have been in an argument with someone in another vehicle.

Police believe the shooting happened near the ramp from Interstate 70 to Van Brunt Boulevard.

This was the 54th homicide of the year in KCMO compared with 67 at this time a year ago.
