KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A couple from Jackson County, Missouri has filed a lawsuit following a food contamination incident at the Hereford House in Leawood, Kansas.

Jace Christian Hanson was taken into custody and charged on April 25, after a tip was sent from an FBI special agent to the Leawood Police Department regarding Hanson contaminating the food.

Hanson started working at Hereford House in March, with all incidents occurring from March 26-April 25.

According to the lawsuit, the couple began to feel ill with body aches shortly after eating lunch at Hereford House on April 18. The symptoms of the couple’s illness were consistent with food poisoning.

The lawsuit states that since becoming aware of the contamination incident at the restaurant, the couple have suffered additional emotional and psychological distress and continue to experience anxiety, including fear of future illness or medical harm as a result of the incident.

The lawsuit accuses the restaurant of negligence, claiming it failed to adequately supervise employees and keep the food and kitchen clean.

It asks for a trial by jury to determine damages.

Hanson faces criminal charges for the incident. Online court records show he requested a change to his bond Thursday, which is currently $100,000.

Customers can make a report to the Leawood Police Department if they ate at Hereford House from March 26-April 25.
