Kansas City Chiefs told not to worry about Travis Kelce TV work amid shut down claims

Travis Kelce's television ventures outside football won't be a distraction if former Kansas City Chiefs running back Thomas Q. Jones is to be believed.

Jones, who played two seasons for the Chiefs from 2010-11 and is one of 31 running backs with more than 10,000 rushing yards, explained how he was able to balance his career on the field and his acting career. He does note that it will be difficult for Kelce but not impossible to do.

"When I played in the NFL, I didn't know I was going to be an actor," Jones told TMZ on Wednesday. "But I did a few music videos and cameos and things like that when I played in Chicago and New York. So I took advantage of some of those opportunities as well.

"Everybody's journey is different. While he's playing in the NFL, obviously he has a huge brand, a huge name. It's a great opportunity for him to take advantage of some opportunities in Hollywood. It's a great, great, great opportunity for him and I applaud him for that. I definitely think there's time in the offseason, it's just committing to it."

Having appeared in movies such as 2015's "Straight Outta Compton" and TV shows such as "Luke Cage" and "Hawaii Five-O," Jones understands how much acting can take out of a person.

That is why Jones made his comments after it was reported that the Chiefs' front office would not hesitate to "shut down" Kelce's TV ventures if it begins to affect his on-field production. "The Chiefs organization is still riding high from their Super Bowl victory and are very happy with Travis, that's why they recently gave him a new contract, but they are monitoring his outside commitments," a source told The Daily Mail.

"It's fine to do commercials, TV Shows, and all of that, but if it affects his play on the field, they will make sure to shut that down immediately."

The source added that Kelce will have a "long leash" because of the coverage his relationship with Taylor Swift garnered for Kansas City. But if his play does decline because of his commitments, the Chiefs will not hesitate to let their star tight end know.

"The coaches and the organization don't anticipate that to happen but will criticize him if his play turns for the worse this upcoming season and they will 100 percent blame his outside commitments," the source continued.

The source's comments come shortly after it was announced that Kelce was cast to star in "Grotesquerie," a horror series set to debut on FX. Kelce will star opposite Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville, Deadline reports.

The show has just started production and as such, details of the horror series are far and few in between. It also has been reported "Grotesquerie" is slated for a fall premiere, which falls in line with when the 2024 NFL season is set to begin.

Additionally, Kelce also has been tabbed to be the new host of "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" a reboot of the popular game show "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" Aside from announcing Kelce would be the host, no other information about the show has been revealed.
