33-year police veteran chosen to lead Junction City Police Department

JUNCTION CITY ( KSNT ) – The Junction City Police Department (JCPD) has a new chief of police Tuesday following the sudden departure of Chief John Lamb .

Junction City Manager Allen Dinkel says Kirt Nichols will serve as the new chief of police for the JCPD as of April 23. He has more than 30 years of experience with the JCPD and served as captain of operations for the past four years.

“Chief Nichols is an obvious choice for this position as he has had a long career of serving Junction City and brings the needed attributes to lead the Police Department at this time,” Dinkel said. “He is well respected by his peers and  will serve as a positive leader for the officers that serve the City.”

Dinkel says Cory Odell will serve as assistant police chief as well. He has served with the JCPD since 2009.

Former Chief of Police John Lamb exited his position on April 9. No reason was given at the time for the exit. Dinkel later released more information on the situation, citing “workplace concerns” as a factor in Lamb’s departure.
