Runners take on annual 5K and 1M with four-legged friends

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) -- Local runners enjoy the nice weather with a annual 5K and 1M.

According to the Joplin Humane Society, both runs were available to furry friends and their owners.

The first race of the day, a 5K, began at 8 a.m.

• $35 in advance, $40 day of race
• T-Shirt included to those registered early
• Finish metal
• Race bib
• Dog tag for the first 50 dogs

5K Awards

• Top male, top female finishers overall
• Top three owner/dog teams
• Top male, top female in each age group
  • 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 and over.
• No duplicate awards

The second race, a 1M fun walk, began at 9 a.m.

• $25 in advance, $30 day of race
• T-Shirt included to those registered early
• Dog tag for the first 50 dogs
• 1 mile Fun Walk with or without a leashed canine companion
• Baby joggers/strollers welcome

Virtual 5K

• You choose when and where to walk/run, includes finisher medal that will be mailed to you the week following the race.
• $35
