Livingston County has named the best local spot for a bowl of soup, according to a poll from The Daily. Colasanti's Express took home first place, with 18.5% of the vote in the poll ending Nov. 2. The express gourmet grocery store opened at 5580 E. Grand River Ave. in Genoa Township in May. Colasanti's offers options for on-the-go soup lovers, with six flavors available daily. A typical staple is chicken noodle soup, while other popular flavors include broccoli cheddar and lobster bisque. Brighton Bar and Grill and The Ivy Table tied for second place with 15.4%. Jonna's Market in Howell took home third place, with 12.4%. The Lansing area gained more than a dozen new restaurants and stores in October, including several that opened their first local location. In East Lansing, openings included BIBIBOP Asian Grill and bb.q Chicken. Charlotte welcomed department store Bealls and Grand Ledge got a new local bookstore, Sis's Stories. Aldi opened its fourth store in the area, in Lansing Township, and Sindhu Indian Cuisine opened a second location in Lansing. Four different businesses announced plans to close in October: Make it Sweet, a bakery in East Lansing, and longtime eatery Delhi Cafe Family Restaurant were among them. Franchise owners Niuljurang Choi and Hyuk Choi are leasing the approximately 2,500-square-foot storefront, previously occupied by Chapelure.
