MONROE — Senior Tyler Schroedl pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts, leading Jefferson’s baseball team past host Monroe 5-1 in Rock Valley play on Tuesday.

Schroedl walked Monroe lead off hitter Ashton Hale in the first inning. With two away, Hale came around on Ethan Rosenstiel’s single up the middle. The Cheesemakers mustered nothing else against Schroedl, who walked just one, faced four hitters above the minimum while throwing 103 pitches, 67 for strikes.

Schroedl punched out Cole Meighan to end the first inning for the first of his 16 straight batters retired. With runners on first and second and one out in the seventh, Schroedl induced a fly out before striking out Blake Drafall on four pitches to end it for the conference-leading Eagles (12-2, 8-1 in conference).

Caysen Miller led off the Jefferson second with a single and scored on a passed ball. Payton Heard added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Jefferson, ranked seventh in the Division 2 Coaches Poll, had two chances to up its lead in the middle innings but came up short before a three-run rally in the seventh. Drew Peterson tripled home Aidan Kammer, who was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Schroedl added a run-scoring single before Tyler Fredrick singled and scored on a bases-loaded walk by Heard.

Jefferson hosts Monroe on Thursday and Brodhead/Juda on Friday.
