CARS Tour Standings For Pro Late Models
The CARS Tour will do double duty on Wednesday, May 15 when both Pro Late Model and Late Model Stock Car races will get underway at the North Wilkesboro Speedway. Racing, all part of the NASCAR All-Star week, was scheduled to begin on May 14, but Tuesday races were postponed to Wednesday.
Over 1,400 pounds of pesticides disposed of in Ashe County
ASHE COUNTY — On April 30, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Ashe County Center, County of Ashe and North Carolina Department of Agriculture worked together to collect and properly dispose of 1,423 pounds of unwanted pesticides. This one-day event is provided to farmers, homeowners and landscapers to dispose of unwanted or expired pesticides in large quantities. Pesticides can be collected throughout the year at the Recycling Center on Dogget Road, which is open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. For more information regarding pesticide disposal, please contact the NC Cooperative Extension, Ashe County Center at (336) 846-5850 or the Dogget Road Recycling Center at (336) 846-7198.
Brenden Queen returns to North Wilkesboro to defend his title
NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — Returning to the track that changed his life, Brenden "Butterbean" Queen is back at North Wilkesboro to defend his title. At the age of 25, less than 10 years after he was racing modified cars, Queen defeated Dale Earnhardt Jr. to win the Cars Tour All-Star Race.
West Jefferson Hotel purchases historic Cornett Virginia Carolina Railroad House
WEST JEFFERSON — West Jefferson Hotel owner Mark Beck recently announced the purchase of the historic Cornett Virginia Carolina Railroad House in West Jefferson. The Virginia Carolina Railroad built the house for its foreman, Benjamin Cornett in 1918. At the same time, the railroad also built a house for foreman Cornett in Damascus, Virginia. Early morning police chase ends with two arrests
WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the arrest of two individuals after an early morning chase on April 27 that ended on Highway 163. On April 27, Sgt. Daniel Cox was patrolling and running radar when he noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Sgt. Cox then initiated blue lights and sirens.
