The temporary barrier in the eastbound lane of Highway 54 in Jefferson City will be removed on Tuesday night, according to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

One lane will be closed from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. MoDOT crews will also restripe the roadway to two 12-foot lanes, after which the width restriction and speed reduction in the area will be lifted.

This is part of the construction project that is adding a third lane to eastbound Highway 54. The lane will not be drivable until late summer, the release states.

According to the release, the base of the roadway is complete, but until the asphalt overlay is placed on top of the base, temporary traffic control devices will be in place to prevent drivers from using the unfinished lane.

The release says that crews will resurface that section of eastbound Highway 54 in “mid-summer,” but did not give a completion date.

Crews will then restripe the roadway from West Main Street to the Highway 63 interchange to include, according to the release:

    • Two lanes for eastbound Highway 54.
    • One lane dedicated to northbound Highway 63.
    • The auxiliary lane to Route W (Airport Road).

The construction is part of the Highway 54 Improvement Project in Jefferson City, the release says.
