JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The OATS transit service in Jefferson City is suspending its services indefinitely beginning on Monday, April 29, according to an April 11 letter written by Regional Director Gary Anspach.

The letter cited an “on-going driver shortage” led to the suspension.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause to our passengers, and we apologize for the disruption of your transportation needs. We recognize the essential role that transportation plays in connecting communities and facilitating mobility and are committed to resuming services as soon as possible,” the letter reads. “During this period we encourage you to explore alternative options for transportation including municipal and private services.”

An email from OATS Administrative Director stated that fewer than 10 people used the service.

“We had less than 10 people in Jefferson City that ride that were affected by this change,” the email states. “Jefferson City has their own city service there so OATS Transit has never served much of the City. Our focus is the rural population.”
