LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)–As the school year comes to an end, thousands of high schoolers are getting ready to graduate and go to college.

Many students in Mid-Michigan are eager to attend schools like Michigan State University or the University of Michigan but one Jackson student will be attending somewhere pretty exclusive.

Kelli Huggins, a Jackson High School graduate, had a tough decision to make.

“This past year I was accepted into four Ivy leagues. That includes Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania,” said Huggins.

“Probably the fifth grade when the wife had an outing for us to go to to have some fun and she said no because she had to study and that told me then ‘Yep she’s going to be going to high places,” Grady Higgins, Kelli’s father said.

Huggins has decided to go to Harvard University.

“I’ve always been the type of student that just loved going to school. I love learning new things. I love reading and math and science,” said Huggins.

Huggins is also the valedictorian of her class.

“To be a black woman and go to an Ivy League is something we’ve never seen before and we’ve also never seen someone accepted into four Ivy Leagues including attending Harvard. “It puts Jackson high on the map very extreme… it can be done and it can be done at Jackson High.”

Huggins says she will begin classes at Harvard in August and will focus on government.
