According to a news release from the zoo, the San Francisco Zoo owned her, and she came via in 2006 from the Center for Conservation of Tropical Ungulates in Pease River, Florida. After two tumultuous years, East Baton Rouge's chief public defender has been ousted, leaving one of Louisiana's largest court systems without a key leader. Last week, state public defender leaders declined to renew a one-year contract for Lisa Parker, the embattled chief who has headed the East Baton Rouge Office of the Public Defender since July 2021. She was appointed to the job after Michael Mitchell, her predecessor, departed the office following decades at the helm.
