C&C Diner: A Local Favorite
Peterstown, W.Va. (The Hinton News) - For the past 13 years, C&C Diner has been serving up homemade meals and warm hospitality to the community. Owned and operated by Connie Broyles, the small diner has become a local gathering place where customers are treated like family. Located in Peterstown, C&C Diner offers a variety of menu items, including hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, and pizza. Many of the meals are prepared from scratch, giving customers the comfort of home-cooked food in a welcoming atmosphere. One of Connie’s favorite aspects of owning a diner is meeting new people and getting to know the many customers who walk through her doors. She especially enjoys welcoming veterans and hearing their stories. After losing her husband and son four years ago, Connie began a fund to help provide meals for veterans. The program has received support from many veterans who have donated the cause, allowing her to continue giving back to those who have served. In addition to supporting veterans, Connie is dedicated to creating opportunities for local youth. Hillsville VFW treats locals to Big Country Breakfast
The Grover King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1115 in downtown Hillsville welcomed all guests on Saturday, October 10 for what organizers hope can be the start of a new tradition, the Big Country Breakfast. The buffet menu consisted of pancakes, ham, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, with coffee and orange juice as beverage options. Efforts to organize the event were led by Kevin Hill and Cindy Layne, who did so in honor of their late grandparents Carroll, a VFW member, and Almarie, who was in the Auxiliary. “Our grandmother cooked fine apple pies at all the flea markets for over 25 years; she was here every year and had high respect from everybody,” said Hill. “She always made cabbage soup at fundraisers and she was the Virginia State Volunteer of the Year for the Auxiliary one year. This is all due in remembrance of her and our grandfather.” Cost was $10 per person and $25 for a family of four. The event lasted from 7 until 11 a.m. and served more than 150 people throughout the morning, per VFW member Alec Horton. All proceeds will benefit the VFW’s Relief Fund to provide support for veterans and their families, while
