Corning defense seals victory over state-ranked Horseheads
A combination of tough running, explosively efficient passing, clutch special teams, and big-time defense carried Corning to a 24-22 victory over state-ranked Horseheads in a Section 4 high school football game on Friday, Oct. 23 at Horseheads High School. Corning then thwarted an onside kick and put the game away on Keegan Kelly's 17-yard run on second down. "Everybody contributed. That was the best part. Everybody was on their 'A' game today," said Corning's John Graham, who had touchdown receptions of 28 and 63 yards on the only two passes thrown by Hawks quarterback Nathan Bretch. Kelly carried 24 times for 114 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown on the game's opening drive. Graham rushed 12 times for 61 yards. Corning kicker Caleb McGee went 3-for-3 on extra points and booted a 29-yard field goal. He added an interception on defense, one of three for the Hawks. Mikey Johnston and Kelly also intercepted passes. The triumph was a big boost after Vestal scored in the final minute to rally for

The project is supported by the Corning Property Management Corporation, a subsidiary of Corning Inc. The company is bringing back the Corning Classic with a new name, " The Classic ." The improvements have been awarded $221,386 in sales tax exemptions through the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency.
