Caitlin Clark's boyfriend Connor McCaffery revealed the exact moment when they realized that life had changed forever because of Clark's massive popularity.

Despite breaking multiple records on the basketball court with Iowa over the past two years, it wasn't until mid-January in the 2023-24 season when Clark made the full realization at a couple's breakfast at The Dandy Lion.

The pair was overwhelmed by the amount of fans looking to speak to her and praise her performances while Clark and McCaffrey tried to dine out in Iowa City after a home game against Indiana. Speaking on the upcoming ESPN+ four-part series “Full Court Press," McCaffery recalled a conversation between the two. "This is not the same as what it was. Me and you, we cannot go and just walk around like nobody knows who you are. That’s not the reality of the situation. And I think there are still moments when she realizes that, like, ‘Damn, that kind of sucks.'”

She later added: "The hardest part about being Caitlin Clark? I’d say is having to feel like you’re always on. You just have bad days, and there are days where you don’t want to talk to anyone. But somebody comes up to you, and this is their 10-second interaction with you. So you better smile and be kind. But at the same time, it’s just like, you just want to be normal sometimes."

While both studying at Iowa together, Clark and McCaffery will continue to live in the same city after leaving school - with McCaffery currently working with the NBA's Indiana Pacers as a team assistant and Clark brought to Indianapolis after becoming the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever .

Clark and McCaffery went public with their relationship last August, but it was recently revealed that they had been together for several months prior to that when Clark posted on their 12-month anniversary in April.

She wrote: "One year of the best memories with my favorite person. You make everyday better and I can’t wait for many more adventures together, I love you."

A former Hawkeye player himself, McCaffery also posted images with Clark, writing: "One year with the best. Doing life with you has been easy and you never cease to amaze me. I can’t wait to watch you live out you dreams in person. Love you."

Clark's incredible play and dominance for large parts of the season saw millions of fans tune in to see Hawkeyes games, and she came one game away from winning the national championship for a second year in a row. Similar fanfare will follow the guard in the WNBA, as tickets for road games are already seeing price spikes .
