LINCOLN COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A West Virginia State Police Trooper who was stabbed in the line of duty Wednesday has been released from the hospital, according to WVSP officials.

According to WVSP, Senior Trooper T.C. Hurley was released from St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington on Thursday afternoon. Hurley underwent surgery after he was stabbed multiple times during a struggle with a suspect in the Ranger area of Lincoln County on Wednesday night.

Superintendent of the West Virginia State Police Colonel Jack C. Chambers says he and the deputy superintendent were able to visit with Hurley after his release. Chambers says Hurley “is hurting pretty good” and could potentially lose part of a finger, but that St. Mary’s “did a great job” providing his medical attention. However, he will be off work for a while.

“He’s got some stab wounds to him. He’s hurting pretty good, God bless him. Got to the house, and he’s got a 1-year-old daughter sitting in the floor, and his wife’s pregnant, and he said ‘I’m good Colonel, I’m good,’ so he’s gonna make it okay,” Chambers said.

The incident began when troopers stopped a vehicle on 10 Mile Road in the Ranger area of Lincoln County. Troopers say that’s when the suspect, Harman Davis, 46, ran into a wooded area.

Once Trooper Hurley caught up with Davis, he stabbed the trooper multiple times, according to the WVSP. Another trooper on the scene then shot Davis, who died from his wounds.
