    Coming Up: Sheep to Shawl Festival; Ship in a Bottle; Car Show

    There’s no lack of activities in Huntington, with events throughout the week for residents of all ages. As the weather warms, the schedule is picking up.

    Here are just a few of the events coming up in the next several days.

    May 2: The Whaling Museum will show h ow a ship gets into a bottle at its Crafts and Cocktails Ship in a Jar event. 6:30-8 p.m. Over 21 only.  Explore examples from the museum’s Kappel Ship in a Bottle Collection up close. Then, sip a Dark & Stormy cocktail as you create your own ship model in a jar.

    May 2: The Hot Mom Walk at Heckscher Park.  9:30 a.m.-11 am. Moms supporting moms through motherhood.  Join at anytime when we are there- don’t worry about arriving on time.

    May 4: Third annual Youth Entrepreneurs Bazaar , 1-4 p.m., 809 New York Ave. (back of the Big H Center). Music, food, youth vendors and more. https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=3LHnpK_0skRNXzC00 May 5: The Huntington Historical Society’s Sheep to Shawl festival returns Sunday, from 12-4 p.m. The free event at the Dr. Daniel Kissam farmhouse at 434 Park Ave. includes demonstrations of sheep shearing, spinning, weaving and knitting.  Includes food, games and musical moments.

    May 5: The Marcie Mazzola 5k walk/run goes off at 8:30 a.m. at the Huntington YMCA. Proceeds help send children in need to experience the magic of YMCA Summer Day Camp.

    May 5: St. John’s Episcopal Church hosts the Jazz Loft All Stars, a quintet of  musicians and bandleaders, teaming up for a special performance of selections from the Great American Songbook. A “Cinco de Mayo” style reception will follow. General Admission $30. Seniors/Veterans/Students $15.

    May 5 : The Centerport Fire Department car show. 11 am-3 pm at Centerport Beach. Tickets are $10 per person; under 12, free.

    On the Calendar

    May 11 :  The 24th annual Run for the Health of It in Northport.  9 am. Amazon gift cards awarded to top 3 in each 5 year age group beginning at 14 and under. First 350 participants receive a swag bag valued at more than $25 while supplies last. Virtual option available.

    May 11: Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Paramount.

    May 19: Mill Dam Park will be the site of the Huntington Waterfront Festival and Craft Fair. From 10 to 4 p.m. Greater Huntington Boating Council starts off Huntington Safe Boating Week with the 9th annual festival.
