Man leaves cut off finger behind after stabbing woman at NC hotel, it led to his murder charge
Smithfield Police have charged a man the day after a woman was found stabbed to death at a motel. Officers responded at about 12:45 p.m. Monday to the Baymont Inn at 125 S. Equity Drive. First responders attempted first aid, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman is identified as Sandra Omary Juarez of Smithfield. Police say they developed Eric Jonathan Nelson, 49, as a suspect from evidence left at the scene including a finger. Construction is underway for a robotics fulfillment center Amazon plans to open in Greater Wilmington, North Carolina next year. The new facility will create more than 1,000 full- and part-time jobs and help improve delivery speeds. Amazon has created more than 27, 000 full- and part-time jobs and invested $12 billion in North Carolina since 2010. The new facility, which is approximately 650,000 square feet and more than 3 million square feet in floor area across four-and-a-half floors, is anticipated to launch in 2026 in time for the holiday season.

Skibo Road site to be demolished for new drive-thru restaurant
A new drive-thru restaurant is planned for Skibo Road, marking another change for a property that has seen restaurants open and close in recent years. A preliminary site plan submitted to the city of Fayetteville's Technical Review Committee proposes demolishing the existing building at 1812 Skibo Road — most recently home to Sushi House, which closed in September 2023 after eight months in business.
