    Hawaii baseball tops CSUN with stellar pitching

    Led by another stellar pitching performance, the University of Hawaii baseball team defeated Cal State Northridge 5-0 in front of a Les Murakami Stadium crowd of 3,059 on Saturday night.

    Hawaii improves to 28-15 overall and 11-9 in Big West Conference games, winning its seventh game overall. Meanwhile, CSUN dropped to 28-16 overall and 14-6, losing their spot atop the conference standings after Saturday

    After defeating the Matadors on Friday behind five perfect innings from Alex Giroux in relief, Hawaii starter Randy Abshier continued Hawaii’s stellar pitching, earning the win on Saturday with seven shutout innings in which allowed just three walks and one hit.

    Abshier had a no-hitter broken up by Mason Le with two outs in the fifth inning, the only hit he surrendered out of his 91 pitches. Danny Veloz pitched 1.2 innings of relief, while Connor Harrison recorded the final out.

    Ryan Halamicek took the loss for CSUN after giving up five runs in eight hits in 6.1 innings.

    Offensively, Matthew Miura and Elijah Ickes had two hits each for the ‘Bows, while Austin Machado had a double and two RBI.

    The ‘Bows and Matadors close out their series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
