HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Hollidaysburg Area School District has alerted parents to an E. Coli exposure on Tuesday at Foot of Ten Elementary School.

    E. Coli is a bacteria found in the environment, foods and intestines of people and animals that can cause gastrointestinal illnesses. In the notice, parents are told to take their children to a healthcare provider if they are ill.

Symptoms include diarrhea (often bloody), severe stomach cramps, vomiting, and in some cases fever. E. Coli can spread by eating or drinking contained food or water or by touching items or surfaces that have been contained with the feces of a person or animal with the illness.

Symptoms usually start three to four days after exposure but could take up to eight days.

If your child is symptomatic, they should be kept home from school and away from a group setting.
