LUBBOCK, Texas — The Hobbs Police Department warned the community of housekeeping and safety needs ahead of the Sunday Night Cruise on Broadway event.

HPD said in a press release it is important to remember the safety issues behind reckless driving. Even the most experienced drivers can lose control of a vehicle quickly and people can get hurt or killed as a result.

HPD said that damage to property, littering and “burnouts” are the most common issues that come along with the cruise.

Damage from burn marks and other street damages cost the city thousands of dollars and can take weeks or months to repair. HPD reminded the public the money for repairs comes from tax money paid by the citizens of Hobbs.

Leaving trash and debris outside of businesses on Broadway creates extra work for those who clean up the community. Businesses on Broadway rely on city employees to keep the outside of their business clean to ensure it looks presentable.
